Comments: Lambeth: Saturday and the Welcome Pack

Simon, some of those buildings (notably Rutherford and Eliot Colleges -- I think your picture shows Rutherford -- are reputed to have been designed by a prison architect. Well, at least an architect whose previous projects included some major prison facilities. I would believe it. They are not only unattractive but also maze-like inside (as befits a correctional institution); it's very difficult to find your way around in them.

Darwin is fairly grim, too, and maze-like, and with misshapen little rooms up staircases and no lifts; but it has a wonderful rose garden! If you can find your way into the close, it is a great place to rest your mind and soul.

Thanks for an informative and entertaining post, Simon.

Darwin College looks like a fairly pleasant building, by the standards of the university's standards. Are there any windows in the press room?

Mary Clara
I will lead a journalist posse into the Rose Garden at the first opportunity, thank you.
Yes, there are windows in this press room. Thanks for the reminder that the lecture theatre had none, how could that have slipped my mind!
