Comments: General Synod - Tuesday's business

Distinctive Deacons are sadly very marginal in the C of E, despite the fact that with Poorvoo there should be an obligation to consider developing the diaconate. The whole discussion about Pioneer Ministry proceeded with no reference to the diaconate..Actually the 3 fold order in the C of E is really bishops /Priests and Readers..and Readers are an aging group not greatly valued by the clergy in my experience..I cant help feeling if the C of E "got the ministry right" things might improve but despite it all nothing much has happenend re the diaconate in 30 yrs..I expect the next going round in circles will call for its abolition again..

Well, Perry, perhaps we in New Zealand might just be one-up on the Church of England. In our Diocese of Christchurch, we have a Woman deacon/Archdeacon.

There are vocational deacons here, but not many. Some seem to start as 'vocational' and then find their vocation 'changed' - often to take charge of a parish.
