Comments: Moving to centre stage

"The work of Epiphany is to bring the private moments of Christmas into the public area. It is our work." Or,

When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:

To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers,
To make music in the heart.

Howard Thurman, 1899-1981: Poet, Mystic, Civil Rights Leader---and my (OBM) grandmother's pastor. [Musical setting here: My church choir sings it tomorrow!]

Thurman's is a lovely poem. I had wanted to make the point that any attempt to do so always makes for trouble. It may bring peace among brothers, it also leads to confrontation with rulers.
